The Eleanor Williams Murder Stone (Nebo Chapel)

On Sunday, December 9th, 1832, the battered body of Eleanor Williams, a pregnant servant girl from Carmarthenshire, was discovered thrown down a well at Llwyngwenno Farm in Felindre. The tight-knit community strongly suspected the son of the farmer she worked for, closely echoing the infamous Margaret Williams murder that had occurred just a few miles away in Cadoxton a decade earlier. Despite local convictions, no one was ever brought to justice due to a lack of concrete evidence. Seeking their own form of justice and heavily inspired by the Cadoxton memorial, outraged locals erected this accusatory murder stone in the graveyard of Nebo Independent Chapel. Today, the weathered stone leans against the rear wall of the cemetery, alongside a smaller stone believed to commemorate her unborn child.
