Description
A mysterious, deeply weathered monolith standing isolated on a chalk ridgeway. Also known as the Crossy Hand stone, its exact origins are unknown, but local legend claims it marks the site of a miraculous event, a gruesome murder, or a lost traveler. It famously features in Thomas Hardy's novel 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles', where Tess is made to swear a fateful oath upon it.
