The Standon Pudding Stone

Description
Located at the west door of St. Mary's Church in Standon. Hertfordshire puddingstone is a conglomerate of flint pebbles cemented by extremely hard silica. Local medieval folklore often dictated placing these massive, naturally occurring stones near church entrances, supposedly to prevent the devil from entering the holy grounds or to stop witches from stealing the church bells.
