Description
These three massive, deeply grooved monoliths are among the tallest standing stones in the UK. The enduring folkloric legend claims that the Devil, furious at the Christian settlement of Aldborough (the Roman town of Isurium Brigantum), stood on Howe Hill and fired these massive stone arrows from his bow to destroy it. His aim fell short, and the arrows embedded themselves in the fields of Boroughbridge.
