Fingal's Cauldron Seat (Machrie Moor)

-2000 · Machrie Moor, Isle of Arran, Scotland

Description

Located on the Isle of Arran, these striking red sandstone monoliths are steeped in Celtic mythology. The tallest stone in Circle 2 features a naturally bored hole. According to legendary folklore, the mythical Gaelic giant and warrior Fingal used this specific hole to tether his favorite hunting dog, Bran, while he ate a meal cooked in his massive stone cauldron within the inner circle.
