Description
This immense, 10-ton glacial erratic of weathered granite dates back to the Neolithic period but achieved incredible historical prominence as the ultimate boundary marker of the Scottish Western Marches. For centuries prior to the Union of the Crowns, this easily identifiable stone on the flat Solway Plain was the official rendezvous point for English and Scottish Wardens, serving as the definitive legal limit of the Scottish realm for treaty negotiations, prisoner exchanges, and the resolution of cross-border raiding disputes.
