The Blarney Stone
1446 · Blarney Castle, Blarney, County Cork, Ireland
Description
Set into the battlements of Blarney Castle in County Cork, Ireland, this block of Carboniferous limestone is world-famous for its folkloric legend. According to enduring tradition, kissing the stone upside down grants the gift of eloquence ("the gift of the gab"). Though its exact origins are debated—with myths tying it to the Stone of Scone or a magical talisman given by a goddess—it remains one of Ireland's most famous cultural landmarks.
