Proctor's Ledge Execution Site
1692 · Pope Street, Salem, Massachusetts, USA
Description
Located at the base of Gallows Hill in Salem, Massachusetts, Proctor's Ledge is the historically verified site where 19 individuals convicted of witchcraft were hanged during the infamous 1692 Salem witch trials. Long misidentified in local folklore, archival research and modern forensic-historical analysis definitively confirmed this rocky outcrop as the actual execution ground. A stone memorial now marks the tragic site.
