The Archduke Franz Ferdinand Assassination Marker

Description

On June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie were shot and killed at this street corner near the Latin Bridge by 19-year-old Gavrilo Princip. The assassination triggered the July Crisis and ignited World War I. A historic memorial stone plaque embedded at the corner of the building marks the exact spot of the fatal shooting.
